Trauma from deeply disturbing or painful life events can cause long lasting damage to the physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing of an individual. When trauma happens in childhood, the imprint left on the child’s psyche can continue playing out into adulthood.
The effects of trauma can manifest in individuals in ways such as a lack of confidence, low self-esteem, or low self-worth. In my opinion trauma seems to be the underlying cause of most mental health problems, especially anxiety and depression.
The most common causes of trauma that people suffer from include:
- violence and abuse – psychological and/or physical
- the death of someone close
- bullying
- sexual abuse
Other causes of trauma can include:
- natural disasters such as earthquakes or tsunamis
- war
- accidents
- medical diagnosis or interventions
- redundancy
- financial hardship
My passion, through hypnotherapy, is to help clients unlock their trauma, move on from their past and become more confident in themselves.
In the deeply relaxed state of hypnosis, clients are able to calmly observe their past memories and make sense of them from a new perspective. When letting go of the past, they’re able to move forward in life in a more empowered way.
I recently had a client who came to me feeling anxious about upcoming surgery. They confessed they were terrified of blood. When delving deeper into the issue through hypnotherapy, I discovered they’d had a few horrific accidents as a child in which they’d lost a considerable amount of blood.
Whilst reviewing these events under hypnosis, the client was able to put the events into perspective and see that undergoing surgery with skilled professionals, in a controlled environment, was perfectly safe and not life threatening. By the end of the session they felt positive about the surgery and looked forward to getting it done.
With long term mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety, a number of sessions are usually required to enable full healing from past trauma. Each session feels like a major breakthrough as the layers are peeled back.
To create the life you want to live, you need to let go of everything that is in the way. Hypnotherapy can help you let go of your past trauma, negative self-talk and limiting beliefs to create a new, happier, brighter future for yourself.
